as some of you know, my end-of-degree recital is in two and a half months. I'm singing classical music with a program of about 45-50 minutes net, with a break in the middle. it's customary - if you want, and I do - to have an encore of some kind which is usually non classical. (we've had people do Elvis or reggae and things). what I'm looking for is a song that would fit. some of you have heard a recording of me from a few years ago singing "Break Your Heart", and while I love that song to death, the content isn't exactly how I'd like to finish my recital, lol. but that should give you an idea of how I sing. right now I'm thinking along the lines of: Great Gig in the Sky - Pink Floyd Somebody to Love - Queen Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen (though if I do this one it'll probably be closer to the Jeff Buckley version) what I'm asking is for maybe other suggestions. as you can see I'm more of a balad type of girl, so just anything you can think of… much appreciated! |

I vote for Hallelujah -- and I demand a copy of the recording if you do it. :) |

I have to mull this over. As much as I love your rendition of "Break Your Heart", it might not be the best fit for this situation. I like the Queen song….but hmmmm. |

Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" has just entered the list, and as far as lyrics it's winning right now… I'd still like to hear suggestions :) |

Having never heard your voice it's hard to make a suggestion…. Good luck though!! JRB |

Mmm… I don't know half of the contenders - but I do like "Hallelujah" :) |

If you can do "gig" justice, girl, then ROCK IT. I also love Hallelujah… and it'd be great done by a feminine voice. |

Hallelujah. Hands down. |

Wolfy - thanks for the input :) I agree that it's been done a lot lately, but not in Israel… which is why it doesn't seem overdone to me. besides, this concert is in front of friends and family and teachers, I don't really care how much a song has been "overdone", lol. I'll choose whichever one I think works best. um… if anyone wants me to email them my version of Break Your Heart from a few years ago, just say the word - and leave your email - and I'll send it along… :) |
