I'm hoping that my crop of Habanaros are good this year…

flecktone May 26th 6:57 pm

Yesterday we planted:

corn
green beans
sugar snap peas
lettuce
spinach
zucchini

We need to get some starter plants for the peppers and tomatoes.  Still need to plant some pumpkins too, but I've got to mound the soil for that yet.

best thing for pumpkins is a mound of manure…
seriously!!

Ok, gardeners…are you getting anything yet?

We've had several pickings of spinach and leaf lettuce over the last few weeks.  Last night when we got home from vacation we picked 9 zucchini - there weren't any when we left a week ago - a couple of them were huge.  Today we got another large picking of lettuce and some green beans.

So what have you got so far?

Wolfy Jul 13th 10:26 am

so far we have picked…
peas
brocoli
spinach
romaine lettuce
and I noticed we have a groundhog that is getting in there.. aaaaggghhh!!

We don't have a veggie garden, but Justin and I started a flower container garden on our back patio.  I think we'll try for a small veggie garden next year.

We are getting tons of cucumbers, some zuccini and yellow squash, two green peppers, and lots of onions. No luck with habaneros yet but it looks like I'll have jalapenos soon.

My surrogate garden (ie, my mom's garden) has some purple peppers ready to be picked! Everything else she planted this year are late summer produce.

In my other surrogate garden (the one my fiance is tending for me in my absence lol) we have tomatoes flowering. It's a tomato garden…it'll be a bit. lol

Conrats on all the fresh veggies! That'll be me next year lol

You can't over water Habaneros.  They don't like a ton of water, and a lot of sun.  And when you just keep them damp…the hotter they seem to be.

Also, they seem to do really well in pretty balanced soil.  I found that they didn't do really well in acidic soil like the tomatos liked.  Just a few things I've learned from going them over the past eight years.

I've also had a great amount of secess growing them in large pots.  Plus, if you do it right, you can get them all year round.  I just kept them in a window near the radiator.

Ok, this doesn't make sense to me. They do or don't like a ton of water?

I think he means *don't* over-water habaneros, but give them lots of sun.

C-pher Jul 15th 8:59 pm

Yes, that's what I meant.  Don't give them too much water… but do give them lots of sun and high heat!

They like it hot and sunny.

I meant, you can't over water them…like be carefull and don't give them a lot of water.  If you want them hot and spicy, then keep them just on the verge of wilted leaf.  The more stressed they are from not being over watered, the more heat that you'll get in the pepper.
