BNL Chatter / Random Surveys / States

Darlene Mar 17th 10:45 pm

Massachusetts…

First state to recognize same-sex marriages and decriminalize possession of marijauna…

Home of Robert Goddard (Worcester, MA)...father of liquid-fueled rocketry…

Land of Dunkin Donuts…every 3 blocks or so there's a Dunkies…you break into a sweat if you don't see one within a mile of the last one you passed…

Ohio…Home of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…one of my FAVORITE things about Ohio…I've been a member for 5 years or so and still can spend hours in that place!

And I agree with everyone on Cedar Point…THE BEST amusement park…but you have to stay at the Breakers and really experience it…get a suite in the main hotel…it's cool.  We do that every couple of years with the kids…we are due this summer…

Put-in-Bay…funny you mentioned that Sean…I just got a newsletter…the bars are open….it's time to take the ferry over and hit the Round House and drive your golf cart to the winery! ;)

I think Put-in-Bay would be a perfect spot for a decadent Chatter gathering…it's an island with an entire marketing ploy to party.

I was thinking the same thing! I know my favorite party band Disco Inferno is playing the Boathouse Grill on the island a few weekends this summer…I think its a great idea.

I love Put-in-bay.  The Microbrewery had some great beer.  And the hotels that we've sayed in had a swim up bar.

I wonder how long of a drive it is to there from MA.

Dar, do you know?

Hell, I've never even been there.

I know, I know…bad me!

I am guessing it would be 12-13 hours…

11 if you drive like I do…

I live in Minnesota.  Wisconsin's superior neighbor to the northwest *winks at David* and the US's northernmost state. It's known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes".  It's a state full of hardy, milkfed individuals largely of Scandinavian or German who know how to handle shitty weather and, well, shittier weather.  We have only two seasons, too… Winter and Mosquitoes.  Parts of the state are fairly boring to look at (flat farmland), and others are breathtakingly beautiful (the North Shore area, for example… gorgeous cliff views and winding rivers).  We're in the news as of late for a vicious battle for our second Senate seat -- Norm Coleman and Al Franken (of Saturday Night Live fame) are battling out an incredibly close recount.

All in all, not a bad place to live.

I currently live in Virginia, one of the original 13 colonies and home to Thomas Jefferson and a few other founding fathers.  I honestly don't know much trivia about Virginia.  It is very pretty here and they actually have 4 distinct seasons.  I do know that Virginia is the tobacco state, I think Marlboro is here.

I was born and raised, however, in Colorado.  The most beautiful state in the union, imho.

It is the Centennial State (so called because it was founded in 1876, the Centennial of the US).

The state dinosaur is the Stegosaurus.  The state tree is the Blue Spruce.

Our state flower is the Columbine, a beautiful bluish-purple flower that grows in the mountains.

The mountains of course are the Rockies…a *real* mountain range, unlike the hills they call mountains out east.  I have never been skiing in my entire life but I miss the hiking and camping.  We also have buffalo herds.

The capital of Colorado is Denver, the Mile High City.  Most of the true city is not actually a mile high, but a little bit under that.  There is a step in front of the capital building that denotes exactly a mile, 5280 feet, above sea level.

We have Coors.

Colorado also only has two seasons…winter and summer…but contrary to popular belief, it is actually sunny about 360 days out of the year.  The Rockies divide the state with the western part being more dry and the eastern being windy plains.

Colorado used to be home to the nicest people, until the Californians came.

I miss Colorado terribly.

I have also lived in New York (City to be precise)and New Jersey (near the shore).  I have visited every state except Alaska, Hawaii, North and South Dakota, Georgia, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

I live in Chicago. Which happens to be in Illinois. Which is probably the most disappointing part of living in Chicago: living in Illinois by default. Aside from having produced the best boyfriend on the planet, one of the greatest presidents, and being home to Obama… I really can't say that Illinois has much going for it.

I'm from Texas originally. Which is lucky for me, Texas being the most awesome state in the union. I get back there about once very 18 months or so.

It would be easier to name states I haven't been to versus those I have (I've never set foot in: Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Carolina and Maine). I'm an army brat and have lived in Spain and Germany as well. I like to travel, I like to drive and I don't mind doing either activity solo.

My current family/work situation is keeping me in Chicago for at least another year, but I'd really like to move to either Seattle, LA or Philadelphia. I don't know why, but those three cities stand out as places to me as temporary residencies. Probably the place I'd like to live most in the world is Madrid… but I'd love to spend more time in Berlin, Hamburg, Stockholm and Copenhagen also. And I have a feeling that the only reason I don't want to live in Buenos Aires is because I've never visited.

I live in a state a bit farther off than you guys… ;)

seriously, though, when I lived in your country it was in LA. I must say I've never taken to that city. I have a love-hate relationship with it for many reasons. I have come to prefer NoCal, though I have to say that SD is a gem in SoCal.

right now I live in Jerusalem, and while it does't offer all of these amazing things you guy spoke of - like a roller coaster park and the beach ;) - parts of it are slightly older than a lot of other places in the world and we're home to sacred places to the 3 great reigions.

a lot of Israelis would tell you that Jerusalem is overrun with orthodox jews and isn't worth really being here, but I've fallen in love with it. there's a certain atmosphere here that I haven't felt anyplace else in the world, and I've been to a few places so far…

that being said, I've visited a handful of states. NY, MA, PA, CA, NV, CO, FL, CN and maybe one or two more. I've recently fallen in love with NY. who knows, maybe I'll find myself living there for a while in a couple of years…
