BNL Chatter / Barenaked Advice / songs & verses

So, Jamie and I met with the Pastor this last Sunday, and he asked us if we had any specific verses that we wanted read, or any specific songs that we wanted the organist to play. We both just kind of looked at each other and shrugged. We have no clue. Are there any verses that you like or (for those already married) that you had that you liked? Any song suggestions? I do have to admit…the idea of having the wedding march that played in the Sound of Music (when Maria entered the church) is just TOO damn tempting lol I'm just not serious enough to hold a serious wedding…lol Hell, we're already planning on playing a joke on my step-father--and the Pastor is willing to help with it too. Pastor told us, "I'm looking forward to this wedding!" lol Anyway, any ideas would be greatly appreciated! |

Well one of the classic verses for weddings (as mentioned in Wedding Crashers) is 1st Corinthians 13 It's a little cliche but still a nice reading. For music, you could always do this: |
| Mac | Mar 3rd 10:19 am
There's gotta be something by the Monkees… |

Ha ha--Mac, we already decided, no Monkees and no ACDC… ;o) |

Can he walk down the aisle to the Imperial March? |
| Richard | Mar 3rd 10:25 am
Being an atheist, I picked out some verses from the Psalm-y area of the bible…quotes about love and stuff, without any mention of god. I think it was the Song of Solomon…but I could be mistaken. As far as organ music, I can't help you there. Not a big of the organ music…it's up there with bagpipes. I'm still fighting to have Train's "For Me, It's You" played during the recessional. |

We had a verse from Song of Solomon in our wedding, as well as the previously mentioned I Corinthians 13. When my friends got married, the groomsmen came out to the Imperial March, and she came down the aisle to the main theme from Gone With the Wind. Richard, we insisted on piano instead of organ for our wedding. Being a pianist myself, I'm a little partial to the ivories. I'll get back to you for some ideas on the music…I need to think about it for a while. |

Imperial March, eh? I think that'd be great lol Of course, completely up to him. Not sure how much of a buff he is with that. Does Matrix have a theme song? lol Richard, I hear ya about the bagpipes…those things make me feel angry almost instantly. It's a very strange reaction, but it's true. Ask DeeK lol Organ, doesn't bother me one way or another. Plus, if I do go with the Procession/Maria from the Sound of Music, it's organ work anyway. I'll have to look up you guys' ideas…I really appreciate the feedback, seriously. Just when I think I have a handle on stuff, something else comes up and I'm like, "do what???" lol |

Unfortunately my father-in-law INSTALLED the pipe organ in this church. Man…a piano would be SO much better. |

Does Matrix have a theme song? lol Well there's the lobby scene music which is usually the music used when people talk about the Matirx |

I'll have to check that out Dean lol And btw, he didn't know what the Imperial March was. lol Don't think he'll use that one. *g* But, then he wrote, "...but I was Yup, that's my guy lol |

This was the first scripture reading we had at our wedding: Song of Solomon 8:6-7 (6) Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. (7) Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away. If one were to give all the wealth of his house for love, it would be utterly scorned. |

This is the other reading from our wedding (like Dean said, it's a very common wedding reading): I Corinthians 13:4-13 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Awww, I think it would be cool to do Sometime In The Morning. I do, however think it wouldn't be advisable to do use I Want to Be Free. I agree with the guys about the bible verses. They are totally appropriate and not too "goddy." |
