BNL Chatter / Barenaked Advice / Impressing families on holidays

moxie Nov 17th 7:54 pm

Okay, since the census is that I should go to the boyfriend's family thanksgiving - when I will meet his entire very close, seemingly perfect family all at the same time... I would like to know how to go about impressing families.

I do really well with moms, but sadly, the bf's mother passed away a few years ago.

So now I've got to figure out how to do well with dads and brothers and sisters. And grandparents. Is there a trick to this?

Miniskirt.

Mox, from what I know of you, you don't need to do anything to impress.  Just be yourself.

If you do well with mothers, then you'll do well with everyone else. Mothers are the hardest.

And Fleck's right.

just be yourself and don't try too hard…..
and.. have fun

Be you because really, if someone doesnt like you being you, they suck.

How can anyone not love you being you?

You are adorable, intelligent, cute, funny, well spoken, and interesting as all get out.

I recommend drinking 2 ice cold spotted cows prior.

And do not bring up the Bears Packers game.

Don't drink and be yourself!

How am I supposed to be myself without drinking???

Seriously, y'all must have some pointers.

I won't talk about politics. Or people dying.

And I won't cuss, pick my nose, or pick my pants.

Anything else?

Just go with the flow…if you have something to add to the conversation at hand, do so.  But I don't think it's a good idea to go in with set talking points…it'll look like you're trying too hard.

ok.. seriously… then here is my advice…

I would watch your alcohol content.. pace your drinking and don't get smashed…  I have seen too many girl/boyfriends introduced at a family picnic, company functions, whatever where they get shitfaced.. and end up being an embarassment.

Not saying that you would do that.. but first impressions last a lifetime…

I have no advice, but just wanted to say that I think it's awesome that you were invited to the family shindig!
