I'm just glad that I didn't have anything to drink when reading Jeff's post! lol

btw, quick update: got the mirena put in. I was told to take 600-800 mg of motrin an hour before the procedure. I did have one big cramp during the procedure and the kind of snotty nurse/assistant ran to my side and was very sweet and kind after that. I was told that it was a type of cramp that women get when they go into labor. Holy hell. Damn. lol

I was dizzy after the procedure, went home, ate, slept, then went back to work. Haven't had any problems since. *knocks on wood*

I go back for a check up in 6 weeks and was strongly encouraged to have sex before then. lol The s/o, of course, loved that prescription. :)

Thank you everyone (you too Jeff lol) for all the words and help. It made me a LOT less nervous about the whole thing. It means a lot. :)

Yay! Glad it went well.  Some women who haven't had a baby actually can't even have them put in, the cervix doesn't open up enough. It sounds like yours went stellar!  Woo hoo!

I've never heard the sex thing, I wonder what the argument is for that… probably to see if the string bothers your partner?  Hrm.

string usually doesn't bother a partner.. I think it is so that the uterus contracts during climax, etc.. in order for the IUD to settle in ...  that is just my thoughts..

<giving that medical-eye look - I'm trying to sound knowledgeable.. >  lol

glad it seems to go well.. except for the cramp… HA!  welcome to the IUD world!!!!

Jen gets the bonus points! It's about the strings lol They want to make sure that the strings aren't going to poke him, basically.

Was told to not have sex for 7 days, to allow the mirena to begin working correctly, and then to have sex and report back if the strings are an issue.

And Jen, I was warned about the possibility of the iud not being able to be put in, so I had my fingers crossed that it would. Now i've got them crossed that i won't be the 1 in 5 that reject it b/c i haven't had a kid! *fingers crossed*

Wolfy, thanx for the welcome! lol :)

I always leave the strings long so the poking isn't an issue…. I figure you can always trim them more, but you can't add length on!  And the poking is usually more of a problem when they trim too short.

Glad my umpteen friggin' years of book lernin' did me SOME good. Phew!
