BNL Chatter / Archives / Why I like McCain

His deep and committed military service to his country. The man was a Prisoner of War for over 6 years in a POW camp. When a man of his history says "Country First", one is inclined to believe him. His humility and integrity with respect to his son's service in the US Military. All 3 sons have served or are presently serving in a branch of the US Military. John McCain said he would not bring that up as a tool in his campaign, and he has not done so, true to his word. The same integrity can be applied in John McCain's commitment to sending enough troops and support to Iraq to complete the mission. He is NOT just speaking words of commitment of thousands of our parents' children to the mission. He knows his own kids will be committed to the mission as well. Add Palin's family to that mix as well. McCain has a definite plan of action for the economy, and a portion of his plan is already in action. This proves to me that he can garner enough support in Congress to actually accomplish something within his plans. I believe that McCain's history of bipartisanship within Congress is huge. Progress cannot be made without enough cooperation within Congress, and McCain I believe has the ability to enact much of his plan, as illustrated in the point above. I see some sense in his buyout plan. I don't like the huge cost, or the responsibility being placed back on the taxpayers, or stronger government control over lending. However, I do see the plan as a large picture. The housing market relates to the economy in so many ways. The buyout will free up the owners of the bad loans to have a little more stability. Far more important, however, will be a stabilization of housing and land values. I'll try to explain: Fewer foreclosures mean less land is now available. Fewer foreclosures also means that more loans will match the value of the property they are lended on. This frees up more buyers who before did not have the opportunity to move. More demand and less supply. This stabilizes and eventually raises property values. Which benefits EVERYONE. What is equity again All of sudden, we have equity, we have investment money for our futures again. For education, for stocks, bonds, bank notes. The more invested, the more stock values go up, the more interest rates go up, which begins to upturn our entire economy. Property values being stabilized means more home and commercial building - and more quickly than we think. Wow - more materials to be purchased, more suppliers once again making profits and adding to their stocks, the more builders, framers, construction workers, electricians, plumbers, material handlers, etc are employed, and the more businesses form and grow. This adds to energy stocks, natural resource stocks, and begins to self-finance the development of alternative energies… by the private sector. Development of more employers. By the private sector. More profit to put back into the economy, for the private sector. Which begins to bring the balance back around as to what is in OUR hands versus what is in those of the government. I like McCain's long tenure in the senate as it relates to experience with both the domestic and foreign policies. I feel that he DOES have a 'steady hand on the tiller', and that the man's tenure of service alone makes him deserving of respect, both from his congressional peers, and his peers across the world. I like that McCain answers questions asked of him in debates. I like that McCain is honest up front about tax sacrifices needed from a large portion of taxpayers, EVEN at the expense of losing some constituency. THAT is also a strong point of integrity. I've added enough for now. I'm hoping that some will echo some of the reasons I've listed and add their own to it.

Thank you, Stephanie :) There are too many out there who simply would say "He's not Obama." McCain deserves far more credit than that. |
